[That sure does make his image even more uncomfortable. Kurama doesn't look at him, suddenly focused on setting his egg on the bed and getting it situated Just Right.]
[Kurama's shoulder is tense under his hand. He shakes his head a little and smiles at Akira, but it's half hearted even aside from the way his image is defensively curling in on itself.]
I'm very old, Akira. I learned a long time ago that you can't afford to hold onto things that ought to be water under the bridge.
His attention draws away from Kurama. Reluctantly, he allows his hand to slide away.]

[He's on edge, too. In every moment that they don't speak, the ticking of their chests seems deafening. But then he looks to the egg, and manages a small smile.]
[It's a minute or so and a lot more wobbly rocking before the reddish egg glows for a second and breaks apart.
It leaves behind a tiny red fox-like creature with a fluffy tail that curls like the egg's pattern. She shakes herself energetically and looks around with wide, curious eyes.]
[He can't help but give a little smile at that instant, protective reaction to the newborn.]
Spirit Beast?
[And then he looks as he hears his own egg and watches the shell pop off. And what crawls out has his breath outright catching, eyes going wide all over again.]
[Kurama... can't really stop the way his expression softens for a moment at the sight of that smile. Hopefully Akira is too distracted by his new friend to notice?
Because it does take him a second to squash that ember of dangerous warmth.
He looks away, down at his baby fox, and scratches her ears tenderly.]
[Luckily, Akira was, in fact, too enraptured by the little baby dragon to notice that warmth. He gently wraps his hands around the dragon's torso and lifts it up.
[Fuck. That's cute. Kurama ducks his head trying to hide a laugh. That might work better without the Vulpix lifting her head to nose at his face curiously.]
It can be difficult to tell with reptiles, particularly at this age. It might be easier to choose something unisex.
