[His hand comes up, gently combing through the long red locks.]

[Kurama sighs softly at the affection and almost melts into it.]

[Akira just stays there for awhile, stroking Kurama's hair when something occurs to him...

He blinks and pulls away slightly, looking down. One of his hands comes up and lays over Kurama's heart.]

Kurama flinches away from Akira's hand but not before Akira can feel the absence of a heartbeat.]

[Instinctively, Akira reaches out to soothe Kurama's emotions, but then gives a little flinch himself, putting a hard stop on that ability.]

... sorry. [He lets out a breath.] So... why can't I feel your heartbeat?

[There's a long, silent moment before Kurama replies. He looks down at the floor, eyes dark and unhappy.]

...because I don't have one anymore.

[His brow furrows as he studies Kurama. After a moment, he steps forward and closes the space between them again, hugging Kurama close.]
