...as well as I can. This timer is too much like before.

Yes... Once personally, and left to wait and worry and discover the worst when someone I love was put through it a second time.

[Kurama opens the door and steps inside, his egg cradled in one arm carefully.]

Odd, the things we've been finding in this place, though I've gotten stranger. And more unpleasant.

[Akira closes the door behind him, curiously looking over Kurama's egg, before his gaze slides over to the teen.]

Oh yeah?

[... he'll be using Heart's Eye on him, btw.]

[It looks like Kurama was telling the truth about it being close to hatching; it twitches in his hold every so often.

As for Kurama himself... he looks tense. On edge, but controlled. His heart's image shows it far more openly, nearly pacing with unhappy nervous energy. And the pain and anger Akira saw the first time seems to be something that never goes away.]

Oh yes. I certainly didn't appreciate the severed android head. Or the breast enlargement book, but that was slightly more mundane if rather infuriating.

[He leads Kurama over to the egg that's swaddled in the blankets on the bed. It's as Akira described; white and glittery and certainly fantastical. It might be just a bit larger than Kurama's.]

Why infuriating?

[Kurama shifts to cradle his egg more firmly in his arms as it gives a particularly energetic twitch.

Kurama's eye twitches, just a little, as he considers the answer to the question. His image gives a low, distinctly grumpy sound.]

I've been mistaken for a girl more times than I like to talk about.

Yup. Almost doesn't look real...

[He looks to the egg, then back to Kurama, giving a blink and a slight tilt of his head.]

I mean... you are very pretty.

'Real' may be a slightly more elastic term than people think.

[The flattest of flat looks, Akira, from both the real and the image Kurama.]

While I appreciate the compliment -sort of-, that's hardly an excuse. You've watched anime, haven't you?

Well... yeah? And I've seen plenty of anime that have effeminate men who can totally kick ass and take names. What's your point?

My point is that people should know better than to assume being pretty means the person must be a girl.

[The annoyed head toss probably didn't help his case, given it's a pretty feminine gesture.

Though something about the whole discussion seems to be making his image uncomfortable.]

[He can't help but give a little amused smile at the head toss.]

Y'know, I'm getting the feeling this goes beyond a simple affront to your masculinity.

[That sure does make his image even more uncomfortable. Kurama doesn't look at him, suddenly focused on setting his egg on the bed and getting it situated Just Right.]

Does it matter why it bothers me?

[He reaches over and gently touches Kurama's shoulder, suddenly much gentler.]

It sounds like you're holding onto something pretty painful.

[Kurama's shoulder is tense under his hand. He shakes his head a little and smiles at Akira, but it's half hearted even aside from the way his image is defensively curling in on itself.]

I'm very old, Akira. I learned a long time ago that you can't afford to hold onto things that ought to be water under the bridge.

You can't actually expect me to believe that given the way you were just acting...

[Despite the slight shift in demeanor, though, he isn't removing his hand.]

I might be young compared to you, but I wasn't born yesterday, either.
